Health Management Programmes


Chronic Disease Management Programmes

WCMAS offers a care and support programme for ALL members of WCMAS who are diagnosed with Chronic conditions such as Asthma, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Cardiac failure, Diabetes Mellitus and HIV/AIDS.

This care and support programme is delivered by specially trained nurses from the Universal Care Disease Management Programme. The aim of the Disease Management programmes is to ensure that you remain healthy and that you have access to the most appropriate care for managing your chronic condition(s).

  • The nurses from the Disease Management Programme will call you regularly and give you personalised one-on-one attention.
  • They will make you understand your chronic condition and how to manage it.
  • They will give you advice on lifestyle, exercise, diet and emotional support.
  • The nurses will also track the progress of your condition and advise you of how often you need to see your doctor and what tests your doctor will do to monitor your progress.
  • The nurses will encourage you to be compliant with your treatment, doctor visits and explain what tests you need to have done at each doctor visit.

The nurses will not inform anyone about your conditions without your consent.

  • Guidance and support.

  • Counselling and health and compliance monitoring.

Wellness Benefit (HRA) Health Risk Assessment

WCMAS would like to encourage all our members and their registered dependants to undergo their annual wellness check up's.

NAPPI 722764001 - WCMAS Health Risk Assessment Effective Date: 01/01/2017.
1 Visit per beneficiary per year, @DSP clinic paid from Risk. Tests include blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, BMI, healthy meal plan and exercise plans.
Combined set of tests @ R193 (including VAT).

DSP's: All pharmacies that charge our tariffs, with no charges to members and will send result files to the scheme.
Current DSP'S: Clicks, Dis-Chem and Script Savers.

This is not applicable to the Yebomed Option.


Preventative Care And Wellness Program

WCMAS offers a preventative care and wellness program for early detection of health risks.

One (1) screening test consultation per beneficiary per annum by a GP will be paid from the Risk Pool (subject to protocols and correct ICD 10 codes) and should include the following –

Breast cancer: mammogram from 30 years old

Check for prostate cancer: PSA blood test

High risk breast cancer: mammogram from
25 years old – 2 checks per annum

Colo-rectal cancer: from 50 to 75 years old

Bone density: from 50 years old

Glaucoma test

Check for cervical cancer: pap smear

Cystoscopy test (Bladder)
